Monday 9th December 2024
Dr. Deirdre Nuttall has recently led a pioneering research project that has looked at the lives and stories of the ordinary people of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, a place known for its wide diversity in geography, wealth, religion, etc. A previous research project, also carried out in partnership with the National Folklore Collection at UCD, culminated in the publication of Different and the Same, a Folk History of the Protestants of Independent Ireland, also explored intriguing counter-narratives, including the stories of working class Protestants from both urban and rural areas in Ireland.
Dr. Nuttall is a prolific author, oral historian and academic. After studies in folklore and archaeology at UCD, she took a master’s degree in social anthropology at the University of Durham, before returning to UCD to complete a PhD in folklore/ethnology. She has carried out research in Ireland, Newfoundland and Guatemala.
