For over 700 years Ireland was governed by a class of people generally referred to as “The Anglo- Irish Ascendancy“ renowned for their vast wealth and extravagant lifestyle. Who were these people? Where did they come from? How did their dominance of Ireland come to an end? This illustrated talk tells the story of the “Ascendancy”, their rise, their fall and where they are now.

Frank Tracy is a retired public servant with a lifelong interest in hillwalking and a particular interest in history. In addition to giving talks on various Irish historical topics, Frank also leads groups on historically related walks.
